Device:Blast Furnace

└ Module: Factory

Description

Blast Furnace The Blast Furnace is a 3x3x4 brick structure, hollow in the middle, for converting Iron Ingots into Steel Ingots. The Oven is built out of 34 special bricks made from Nether Brick, Soul Sand, and Magma Cream. If broken down, it takes 36 Nether Bricks, 36 Soul Sand, and 9 Magma Creams to build one Blast Furnace. When building a Blast Furnace, you will know the Furnace is complete when the window appears in the middle block on the sides. Blast Furnaces cannot be built adjacent to each other – there must be at least one tile in between Furnaces.

The Blast Furnace is rather picky about what kinds of fuel it can accept due to the chemical reactions required to turn iron into steel. As such, the Blast Furnace only accepts Charcoal or Coal Coke as fuel. No other fuel will work. It will use two pieces of Coal Coke or four pieces of charcoal to make one Steel Ingot, and one Ground Blast Furnace Slag.

While the Blast Furnace is active, the center will contain lava. It is recommended that you do not attempt to disassemble the Blast Furnace while it is running.

The Furnace can be loaded and unloaded via Loaders or Buildcraft pipes. The entire 3x3x4 Furnace is treated as a single block, similar to a large chest. It will accept Coal Coke, Charcoal, and Iron Ingots from any side and will output only Steel Ingots from any side.
